Day Fifty-seven, February 26th

Today I made a digital collage. I was intrugued by the layers of dark. In the end I decided to add bright red Kanji text to catch the eye. I have no idea what the text means.

Day Fifty-six, February 25th

Today my crit group met all day, laughed, ate and actually did some work. I finished beading my portion of my submission in the studio quote quilt project. I also worked on my Indian square.

Day Fifty-eight, February 27th

Today's work is a digital collage called The Orange Chair. More fun with objects.

Day Fifty-five

I worked on art all day, but didn't finish anything I could show. Most of the day was spent working on my quote quilt for the studio collaboration being done for the Lowell Quilt Festival. I also worked on making Little Treasure boxes for a American Cancer Society fundraiser. Tomorrow I am going to an all day quilting party with my crit group, where I hope to do more on the stuff I worked on today.

Day Fifty-four

I'm off to the movies and dinner later, so I did this digital collage really quick (well maybe an hour). I keep going back to the ephemera I have scanned and putting stuff together. After creating the collage, I went to Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 and created 3 other versions.

Collage as created

Collage with Accented Edges Filter

Collage with Poster Edges Filter

Collage with Fresco Filter

Day Fifty-three

I finished a collage based on a digital collage I did on Day 33. The image was placed on the painted canvas using image transfer (inkjet copy and Goldens regular matte gel medium) I used paper to give her a dress and painted her skin and hair. Today I did the background and now I don't really like it. Oh well, I'll tray again another time.

Day Fifty-two

Today at studio we discussed homework. This evening I created a digital collage. The first go around of creation, the collage looked like a greeting card illustration, very depressing. I kept playing and now I've created this little demon girl, my job is done for the day!

Day Fifty-one

More homework today - Illusions using perspective

Day Fifty

Today I did more homework for my design class. The exercise was to draw 5 - 1" by 2" rectangles and then to draw 5 differently scaled objects within those rectangles showing them in context. Here are my 3 favorites.

The first drawing is an enter key from keyboard.

The second is a metal house number sign on a chipped plaster wall.

The third is a door in an old building in the snow.

Day Forty-nine

I worked on a collage on canvas today, which I hope to finish in a few days. Tonight I made this digital collage.

Day Forty-eight

Today I did a digital collage using an old Italian envelope, one of many I bought on ebay. I like the orange, which normally I don't like at all. It's soooo windy here, everything is rattling.

Day Forty-six

Today I played with the same image as yesterday but added color to the components.

Day Forty-seven

Today I made some fabric postcards, here are two of my favorites. The first was made by stamping fabric with block of corrugated cardboard and gold paint, then gold machine stitching and finally gold beads.

The second was cut from a small unfinished art quilt and machine stitched.

Day Forty-five

Today at the studio in Lowell, I dyed some cloth and we discussed a collaborative project we are doing that will be shown during the Lowell Quilt Festival in August.

When I got home I did this digital collage, very vintage looking. Wednesday, I'm going to take the same components and try something more colorful.

Day Forty-four

Today I finished a Fabric/Paper collage postcard for a swap in the Got-Art-Mail? yahoo group. But, I can't show you until the person receiving the card gets it. The point of the group is to create art and mail it as is, without packing or wrapping it. It is fun, but I don't swap every month. I also worked on designs for some other art quilt projects.

Here are some pictures of the snow from yesterday's blizzard. I took them as went out on my way to work.

Day Forty-three

It was a Snow Day today, yeah!!!! I got lots of art started and some finished. Another task in the Personal Symbol class was to make a page of doodles drawn perhaps from earlier efforts.

I altered another cabinet photo, this young man looks so dapper to me.

Day Forty-two

I just started an online class in Personal Symbols and our first assignment included doing a bunch of doodles. For some unknown or un-remembered reason I had pretty much stopped daily doodling over the years so it was fun to start again. Here are two pages from sketchbook.

Day Forty-one

I finally straightened out my studio area (dining room) so I'm creating real art again. Whew! It's not super clean and organized yet, but I can work. Today's art is an old cabinet photo I bought, embellished with paint, tissue leaves, embossing and more paint.

Day Forty

Today's art is a digitally altered photograph. I bought the photo during one of my many for instant ancestors searches. I just love these two women who I always think of as sisters.

Day Thirty-nine

I created this digital collage today from scanned ephemera that I colored like cyanotypes. Then added digital oil pastel, such fun.

Days Thirty-Seven and Thirty-Eight

I've been out of touch, busy with work and stuff. In this entry I have included the homework I did those 2 days which we reviewed yesterday at studio.

4.7A Create a shape

4.7b Make that shape have volume

4.8a Morph one shape into another, in this case a bunny into a phone.

Day Thirty-six

I finished off 2 fabric postcards today. I also worked on a new collage of my mom using image transfer, started an accordian book by covering the covers in fabric. I'll post both of those when I am done.

Day Thirty-five

Today was an Open Studio day at LFS so I was there most of the day doing a bunch of stuff. I did more homework for my design class, work on the Indian Square quilt and some fabric postcards from collages done earlier in this daily art process. You would see some of all of that, except I left it in the car to take to work with me tomorrow. So instead I created another digital collage.

Friday, February 3, 2006

Day Thirty-four

Today I worked on the design and graphic elements for two different quilts, more about that later. I also worked on my Design Class homework.

Problem 4.3a black and white figure-ground reversal.

Problem 4.3b figure-ground reversal with black white and gray

Problem 4.2 Divide groundsheet into 5 or 6 shapes

Day Thirty-three

Today I created a rather retro looking picture of my mom from an old photo of her. I may use the line drawing that I originally created from the photo for other pieces later.
